Reflexology
Roches Wellness Centre
Reflexology is the practice of applying precise hand and finger pressure to specific points on the feet to stimulate the body’s own healing system, helping to open up the flow of energy throughout the body, unblocking trapped energies and promoting deep relaxation.

About Sole to Heal Reflexology
Maura’s journey into Reflexology began when her sister, diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer, struggled with the toll of medical treatments. Witnessing her sister’s distress, Maura suggested Reflexology as a way to ease her symptoms. The profound impact of reflexology treatments on her sister’s well-being inspired Maura to become a Reflexologist specialising in Cancer Care.
Establishing her own practice, Maura also volunteered at ARC Cancer Support. Today, she offers Reflexology sessions at Roches Wellness Centre every Tuesday, providing compassionate care to cancer patients during and after treatment.
Emphasising Reflexology’s role as a complementary therapy, Maura assures its safety alongside medical treatments. Accredited by VHI Healthcare, Laya Healthcare, and Irish Life Health, she upholds the highest standards of care as a member of the National Register of Reflexologists Ireland.
With gentle pressure on specific points of the feet, Reflexology promotes relaxation and relief, offering comfort to those in need.
Frequently Asked Questions
Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet, hands, and ears that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body. By applying pressure to these reflex points, reflexologists believe they can promote relaxation, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural healing processes. Reflexology is often used to alleviate stress, reduce pain, and enhance overall well-being.
Reflexology can benefit cancer patients by providing relief from symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and anxiety. It promotes relaxation, reduces stress levels, and enhances emotional well-being. Reflexology may also help improve sleep quality and support the body’s ability to heal and recover during and after cancer treatment.
Reflexology may help alleviate menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, insomnia, and hormonal imbalance. By targeting reflex points associated with hormonal glands and systems in the body, reflexology can promote hormonal balance, reduce stress levels, and support emotional well-being during the menopausal transition.
Hand reflexology is a form of reflexology that focuses on stimulating reflex points on the hands to promote relaxation and well-being. Similar to foot reflexology, hand reflexology is based on the principle that specific points on the hands correspond to organs, glands, and other parts of the body. Hand reflexology can be performed by a trained practitioner or practised as self-care at home.
Yes, reflexology can help alleviate various side effects of cancer treatment, including nausea, fatigue, pain, anxiety, and insomnia. By promoting relaxation, reducing stress levels, and supporting the body’s natural healing processes, reflexology offers comfort and relief to individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Many cancer patients find that reflexology sessions provide a sense of relaxation and well-being amidst the challenges of their treatment journey.
Chakra balancing is based on the belief that the body has seven main energy centres, or chakras, which correspond to different aspects of physical, emotional, and spiritual health. During a chakra balancing session, various techniques such as meditation, visualization, and energy healing are used to clear blockages and restore balance to the chakras. By harmonising the flow of energy within the body, chakra balancing aims to promote overall well-being and inner harmony.
Reflexology is generally considered safe when performed by a trained and qualified practitioner. However, it may not be suitable for everyone, particularly those with certain medical conditions such as foot injuries, open wounds, or infections. It’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional before undergoing reflexology, especially if you have any underlying health concerns.
During a reflexology session, you can expect to relax in a comfortable environment while the reflexologist applies pressure to specific points on your feet, hands, or face. The pressure may vary depending on your preferences and needs, but it should generally be firm yet gentle. The experience is typically soothing and may induce feelings of deep relaxation and well-being.
The number of reflexology sessions needed varies depending on individual needs, goals, and the nature of the condition being addressed. Some people may benefit from a single session for relaxation and stress relief, while others may require multiple sessions for chronic pain management or ongoing support. A reflexologist can work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan based on your needs and preferences.
Coverage for reflexology by health insurance varies depending on the provider and the specific policy. In some cases, reflexology is covered once your reflexologist is a registered member of an approved reflexology Association, such as Maura. It’s advisable to check with your insurance provider to determine if reflexology is covered under your plan and what requirements may apply.
